Government Initiates Compulsory Retirement for ASP Saklayen Over Alleged Relationship with Actress Pori Moni

The government has initiated the process to send Md. Golam Saklayen, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) and currently an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), into compulsory retirement. This decision comes after allegations of a close relationship with actress Pori Moni and violations of the code of conduct were proven against him.

According to relevant sources, the summary of the gazette notification prepared on this matter has already been signed by Home Affairs Advisor Salahuddin Ahmed. It will subsequently be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office and then to the President’s Office for final approval. A formal gazette will be issued after the President’s order.

Golam Saklayen was the investigation officer in the case filed against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud following the Dhaka Boat Club incident in 2021. It has been stated that his acquaintance and communication with Pori Moni began through this case.

A document sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Public Service Commission (PSC) states that a close relationship subsequently developed between the two, and Saklayen regularly visited Pori Moni’s residence. It has been claimed that an analysis of Call Detail Records (CDR), mobile messages, and social media conversations obtained from the Police Headquarters’ LIC branch revealed information about their personal relationship during the investigation.

The document further mentions that on August 1, 2021, while Saklayen’s wife was absent from home, Pori Moni visited his government residence in Rajarbagh and stayed there until the night of the following day. The investigation report also notes that CCTV footage corroborated this movement.

Following the emergence of the allegations, Golam Saklayen was withdrawn from the DB, and a three-member investigation committee was formed. After the investigation confirmed the veracity of the allegations, the PSC’s opinion was sought on June 13, 2024, regarding his compulsory retirement. The process for a final decision has commenced recently, following the reception of the Commission’s opinion.

The Ministry of Home Affairs document states that Saklayen’s conduct, as a responsible police officer, was not consistent with the discipline and ethical standards expected of a government employee. Despite being married and a father of one child, allegations of an extramarital affair, participation in private events, and misuse of his government residence were brought against him, which the report noted has tarnished the government’s image.
